We were the youngest there and it was a night to remember.

First post in 2011 and it’s already late February. I do apologise, time seems to slip me by these days. I’m now 27 and glad to say don’t feel any different. Once a wanderer, always a wanderer, so here is a nice little walk in the beautiful Yorkshire Daltes. It starts from quaint Malham to Malham Cove, Malham Tarn and Great Close Scar.

We chatted with this sheep farmer on our way back. He said we were crackers for enjoying a walk in such miserable weather. But he couldn’t blame us city folk, wanting a piece of his beautiful countryside :)

Wow, has it been a year already? There will be some major reflection happening in the next few days (as is usual for me), but for now, here are some highlights:

• Hiked up Blencathra
• Getting my second tattoo
• Visited Grenoble, France for a foodie holiday!
• Hiked up Hellvellyn
• Went home to the Philippines
• Began to learn how to Windsurf :)

And because I didn’t get a chance to post about my trip to London (had to go to the embassy to get my passport renewed), here are some lovely snapshots of the city and the Natural History Museum…after waiting patiently in the longest queue I have ever stood in. Everyone wants to see the Dinosaurs!

A few snapshots of inside the Leeds Grand Theatre, while I was waiting for The Habit of Art to begin.  Alan Bennett has become one of my favourite playwrights, especially after History Boys. This show didn’t disappoint at all. Like an onion…layers.

A few snapshots of a walk we did in November. Yes, snow came early this year! But we were looking forward to hiking in these wintry conditions.  The walk started out in Hebden Bridge towards Hardcastle Crags. On the way we stopped for some tea and a baked potato dripping in melted cheese. The walk took four hours (including the stop), ideal when you’re watching the light in these late months.

The last time I was at Bettys it was for my Hen Do in early 2009, so it was nice to see that the restaurant looking as pretty as ever when I returned. Although I was there to celebrate the birthday of one of my closest friends, I decided to make notes and be a bit more critical of what was offered (which was hard to do without sounding like a nitpicker!).

The tea…beautiful, really. Can’t complain at all. When I first came to the UK and had my real first taste of ‘tea’, I described it as “warm brown water”. Definitely not using that label here…

You will find a few Swiss dishes on the menu. According to the Bettys Story:

The combination of mouth-watering Swiss confectionery and Yorkshire warmth and hospitality in such an elegant setting proved irresistible.

Well, what I ordered for my main course was not confectionary, but a typical Swiss dish, Pork Schnitzel. I wanted to see if it lived up to its name. Unfortunately it didn’t. It was not the best Schnitzel I’ve tasted, having had many living in St. Gallen, Switzerland. There was a hint of the taste of my Swiss home, but it wasn’t a contender at all.

But when it came to Bettys it was all about the cake. Tea and cake. Soon we had to check out the cake trolley.

By this point, I forgot about being critical. Too tasty. Mouth too full. Sweet. Yum. Busy. Go away. That is all.

The snow came early this year and when it came, it came thick and fast! Pascal (the tiger) annoyed his way out of the house, only to run back in after a minute in the mountain of white stuff. It was quite entertaining to track his progress around the garden, by watching his tail over the snow…

Hope everyone’s looking forward to Christmas. I won’t mention the Christmas shopping… (oops!)
